2010 sees a new twice yearly format for the legendary Kima Trophy and celebrates the first ever Ultra SkyMarathon® World Championship. The “open” world title awarded by the International Skyrunning Federation promises an exciting event pitting some of the top international “ultra” specialists against each other.

The course, completely renovated in 2008, is 50 kilometres long with 3,800 metres vertical climb – probably one of the toughest races on the international skyrunning scenario.

The entry limit, for safety reasons, is capped at 100 and is open to athletes from the twelve ISF member nations and to athletes that finished a SkyMarathon® between 2009 and 2010 (as well as the first fifteen men and five women finishers of the 2009 Val Masino SkyRace®).

This extraordinary “ultra” is supported by a number of projects aiming at the promotion – especially of the environment – but also sport, tourism and mountain safety: COBAT, partner of the event, promotes the collection and recycling of exhausted batteries; the Mini Kima, a race for kids and families; and the Mountain Fitness® project together with Sentieri Sicuri, have been developed to ensure everyone can enjoy their hikes in Val Masino in complete safety and with an eye on calorie consumption.

The Kima Trophy looks set to make history on Sunday, August 29 with the enthusiastic support of partners and institutions, athletes and fans, organizers and volunteers, all committed to celebrating one of skyrunning’s major events in 2010.
