Entries now open for Kima Extreme SkyRace, Kima Trail & Mini Kima

When registration opened for the mythical Trofeo Kima, the 350 available entries went in a handful of hours, with those missing out adding their name to a very long waiting list. But now, as non-profit race organisers in Valmasino have an exciting new partnership to announce, they are ready to jump in the ring for round two by opening registrations this Thursday (23/5/24) for three related events on the same weekend in late August:  Kima Extreme SkyRace, Kima Trail and Mini Kima.

Karpos, one of the outdoor industry’s leading brands, is proud to become the main technical sponsor of the entire Kima events portfolio for the next two editions
. “This partnership with Trofeo Kima is the crown on top of our recent growth that’s seen the bar really get raised,” explained Marco Capretta, Karpos’ marketing manager. “It’s also an opportunity to get involved with the organisation and share in their ambition of taking skyrunners up high to the trails and ridges that make up the Sentiero Roma. The landscapes and mountains in Valmasino are very similar to those near our HQ, where you’ll see us out running each time we get the chance. Mountains like these bring people together, through dreams and fatigue.”

Ilde Marchetti, president of the Associazione Kima, adds: “It’s a proud and happy moment for us to have Karpos by our side. Not only is it an Italian brand, but we also share much of the same philosophy. We’re all from the mountains, and we love and respect them accordingly. I truly hope that this partnership will do nothing but strengthen and continue for many future editions.”

On Thursday, 23 May at 10:00 CET, entries officially open for the Kima Extreme SkyRace® (max 300 participants) , Kima Trail (max 400 participants) and Mini Kima (max 400 participants).

Kima Extreme SkyRace: Starting just after the iconic Grande Corsa sul Sentiero Roma, the shorter Kima Extreme SkyRace® promises to live up to the moniker ‘Extreme’ given its elevation and technical nature. This abridged race, which shares many of the same genes as the main race, starts and finishes in the classic location at the Casa delle Guida in Filorera. Extreme by name, extreme by nature: it’s a 25.5 km route with 1,850 metres of climbing, beginning with the climb to Rifugio Gianetti, before topping out at 2,570 metres above sea level on Passo Barbacan (the race’s highest point/GPM), then descending towards Rifugio Omio. Current records are held by Luca Del Pero 2h58’42” and Giulia Compagnoni 3h40’40”.

Kima Trail Running & Mini Kima: On Saturday 24 August, the picture-book scenery of Val di Mello hosts two shorter, more mellow running events: Mini Kimi runs over 6 km and is well suited to younger athletes, families and kids, following an out-and-back along the bike path on the banks of the Masino up to San Martino; and the 14 km Kima Trail Running, which attracts everyone from the track, trails, roads and mountains, and winds through the unspoiled oasis that’s encircled by the imposing granite peaks and crashing waterfalls, skirting up the right-hand-side of Val di Mello, before turning at Rifugio Rasica to find its way back downhill on the opposite side of the river to finish at the same location.
